Kaleidoscopes
If you look through KALEIDOSCOPES, a new world is revealed before your eyes, with every twist and turn, the detail magnifies.
The colours appear brighter and unique patterns are transported into various forms of art that merge together to create a hidden world of beauty. Just as Noj Barker’s immersive paintings, the closer you look, the more details draw you into his unending field of dots. When you look at his painting you hear music. His accumulations of dots are the sort of psychedelia which blazes your retina.
At Noj’s Residence
These paintings were selected and curated around Noj Barker’s Family Hall Farm in Northamptonshire. As you walk around his house you really feel as if you could stumble upon anything. You could walk through his extensive library, or encounter 18th century commode, sit next to the gong, whilst listening to the symphonies that his son Claude plays relentlessly throughout the day.
Although the second lockdown has limited our freedom to display artworks in venues, we took this opportunity to re-imagine Noj’s paintings around his family home.
Curatorially, taking subtle movements to re-invent each room, gave us an opportunity to look into the smallest details. By taking paintings from their original place, we merged them together with everyday objects. This minimalistic approach mimics Noj’s process of painting. He paints minuscule spots on top of hundreds and thousands of dots.
Several hours later, a painting is born — a hallucinogenic matrix of chroma and pattern is revealed. His eclectic environment along with his paintings invite us to navigate a web of spots, dots and rivulets of coloured grounds.
