The Entourage

Today’s environmental crisis is shifting more promptly than at any other time in human history. Metropolitan lifestyle creates a systematic loop in which you have to stick to the rational mundane regulations. However, passing through the streets every day, how often do we realise and reflect on the carbon footprint that we leave on our environment.

Is it possible to distract the dominant systematic narratives in our daily routine by evoking fear and confusion?

Entourage is a collaborative installation that explores the current urban environment in an immersive, site-specific way. The isolated room challenges viewers to look at the global ecosystem, climate change and human behavioural patterns. By using artificial illusions such as temperature, light, sound and visual effects - this installation triggers all senses to invoke emotions of fear and confusion. Sound and lights allude to the metropolitan lifecycle, whilst a room’s temperature, and the transparency of the clingfilm reflect a current rise in global temperatures.

Upon entering the room, one is immediately aware of the heightened temperature within the room. The directed use of electric heaters is used by the artists as the new medium - the new sense that would mimic the current rise of the temperatures across the globe. The closer you shift inwards, the hotter and more trapped your surroundings become. An equally important aspect of the installation is the use of the biodegradable cling film material. The transparency and fragility of the medium allows viewers to both participate with the installation and feel the temperature, whilst all the while sensing there are figures around them. Sound and light, similarly, invoke a sense of an interactive metaphor towards our social globalised ecosystem.

The white fluorescent light is submerged into amber lights that symbolises warmth. Sound on the other hand is created by the artists, using their bodily as a sole instrument. All senses are brought together in order to reflect the current human trend that clearly destructs our world. The collaborative aims in this site-specific work, re-imagine the white cube space of the gallery and re-create an emotional trigger for participants to analyse their own human behavioural patterns.
