Lilya Kovgan
My name is Lilya and I explore magic in space, trying to capture it. Since childhood, the feeling of its presence around, especially in nature, has not left. Nature has surrounded me long years and taught to look into her not-made works. It was she who laid the foundation on which my works are built. The most important thing for me is to convey the intimate moment between a single viewer and a magical event/phenomenon.
Besides nature, music and cinema, as well as fashion influenced the formation of my ideas. I feel a big resonance with the things of Sorrentino, Jorgos Lantimos, Paul Thomas Anderson, Alexander McQuiin, Cocteau Twins. I’m interested in working in different techniques and not limit to one topic, while retaining the main connecting component. Even in the most abstract works I seek a magical form that envelops the viewer, deprives him of it own space, for example.
I did my first job as soon as I could walk and reach for a pencil.
Several years of studying volumetric design and academic education after, gave me good tools for further development. At one point, I left school so I could no longer absorb the local school’s handwriting. Later I tried myself in illustration, collaborated with GQ and other magazines. Since then, I have moved from Belarus to Petersburg, where she worked on radically different things. As a result, she devoted most of the time to the series in watercolors and other oil works.
I like to remain an independent artist. It’s also interesting to try fashio and other collaborations. Attracts synthesis of design, nature and fine arts.
I hope my work becomes something more and part of something else very close to my heart.
